Memoir: What I was Doing While You Were Breeding

I love to read almost as much as I love to fly-actually, maybe it’s the other way around. The point is, reading and traveling are two of my biggest addictions. Which is why travel books are Achilles heel. I love finding a new read, so when it’s travel related, what could be better. Below is my review of What I was Doing While You Were Breeding, I’ve also included buy links in case you want to grab a copy of your own (which I highly recommend) but be advised that I’ve included affiliate links which mean I may get a commission for my referral. I love this book, but might as well get a couple cents for my referral, eh? 🙂

Book Review:

What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding

By Kristin Newman

Kristin Newman spent much of her twenties and thirties buying dresses to wear to her friends’ weddings and baby showers. Not ready to settle down and in need of an escape from her fast-paced job as a sitcom writer, Kristin instead traveled the world, often alone, for several weeks each year. In addition to falling madly in love with the planet, Kristin fell for many attractive locals, men who could provide the emotional connection she wanted without costing her the freedom she desperately needed.
Kristin introduces readers to the Israeli bartenders, Finnish poker players, sexy Bedouins, and Argentinean priests who helped her transform into “Kristin-Adjacent” on the road–a slower, softer, and, yes, sluttier version of herself at home. Equal parts laugh-out-loud storytelling, candid reflection, and wanderlust-inspiring travel tales, What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding is a compelling debut that will have readers rushing to renew their passports.

My Humble Opinion

LUVED IT!

This is one of my favorite travel books! Newman is hilariously honest and spins true tales that many women can relate to- I know I did. Although Newman is a writer, she has the spirit of a flight attendant and that’s why I think all my cohearts will LUV this book. Any flight attendant knows the itch, the restless feeling of going too long without setting foot in a new place. Kristin’s annoying quantity of money allows her to jetset her way around the world, alone most of the time…until she meets a stud of some variety. I’ve done most of my traveling alone too and there’s something to be said about the unique experience that comes from venturing around solo. You find out what you’re true potential is. Not only that, but being alone makes it WAY easier to meet new people. The people that Nelson meets makes this book all the more colorful. I know that as a flight attendant, I put many of her adventures on my to-do list, such as her trek through New Zealand. Want to find out what I’m talking about? Read the book. I know you’ll luv it!

So, what’s your favorite travel book?

  1. You are so cool! You make me want to be a flight attendant! I enjoy travel writing, but I’m not sure this would be the right book for me. I’m married so my adventures will never look quite like hers… and I don’t want to know about what I’m missing 😉

  2. I am in need of a new book, and have never read a travel book! I’m sure this book will give me travel fever, but I will definitely check it out! Thanks for the recommendation!
